It’s Show Time

A quick check in before a big weekend

Hello there and Happy Black Friday. I hope you are are doing something more fun than shopping, unless shopping on this day is your jam. If so, good luck out there.

This is a very quick follow up on last week’s post, that included some recommendations for ways to follow ski racing this season. One of my recommendations was the Skiing is Believing Podcast, which I have enjoyed since discovering it (a little late) last summer.

It turns out, I had the pleasure of being a guest on it for their Killington preview episode. It was fun to meet Matt and Al and to join in with their enthusiasm for the sport. I hate making race predictions because, as Eva Twardokens used to remind reporters who asked for her predictions: “That’s why they run the race!”

But, that’s also part of the show at the end of their preview episodes, so I played along. It’s a fun exercise to run through the reasoning behind these predictions for completely unpredictable outcomes. It makes being wrong so much more fun.

Also this week, I wrote this Killington preview article on skimag.com. It includes the insane amount of attention surrounding Mikaela Shiffrin’s impending 100th World Cup victory. Honestly, I cannot fathom that number of victories, or how one handles the pressure to fulfill a script that feels just too perfect. But then again, that’s why I’ve never faced that challenge!

Killington may or may not be the site of a historic Hundie; but, it’s guaranteed to be an exciting weekend of racing at a venue that must use a little magic along with their hard work to make this race happen every year. I’m especially psyched to watch the home team get after it and continue their early momentum.

Winter is really coming now. I hope you are enjoying it however you do, wherever you are.
